Eight-year-old Delphia started swimming at a young age and quickly became confident in the pool. When her mom noticed artistic swimmers training and looked into the sport, it seemed like the perfect fit for Delphia. By the time she was five and a half, she was swimming comfortably across the pool and ready to try something new. That’s when she discovered artistic swimming – and she’s been enjoying it ever since.
One of Delphia’s favorite parts of the sport is spending time underwater. “I don’t know why, but I just love it!” she says with a smile. She enjoys practicing eggbeater drills, upside-down movements, and improving her breath control. She is especially proud of how much longer she can hold her breath compared to when she first started.
At Pacific Wave Artistic Swim Club, Delphia looks up to one of the older swimmers at her club for her impressive highlights and flexibility. “She’s so good at highlights, she can go so high in the air!” she says excitedly. Her coach is another key influence, always bringing kindness and patience to practice. “She’s so calm, and she’s kind and nice. She teaches us new things we didn’t know before.”
Beyond artistic swimming, Delphia enjoys playing tag and Simon Says with her friends. No matter what she’s doing, she always looks forward to her next practice. She encourages other kids to try the sport, saying, “If you love swimming, just go for it! You get to learn so many cool things.”
